The fourth annual Grillin’ and Chillin’ BBQ returns on Nov. 11 to honor Veterans on campus.
The SHSU Veteran’s Resource Center hosts the event from 11:00am to 1:00pm in front of Academic Building III.
The Barbeque aims to give back to the Veterans that they are honoring. The Assistant Director of the Veterans Resource Center, Kelli Leaf asked that non-veterans bring a monetary donation or a non-perishable food item. The monetary donation will be given to assist the Collegiate Veterans Association, or to the VRC, itself.
The non-perishable food items will be distributed to Veteran families in need during Thanksgiving.
If a non-veteran volunteered at a previous event, they will have received a ticket that can be used in place of a donation.
Veterans may attend without a ticket or donation.
The event, which has attracted 200 to 300 people per year, will be purely social, without other forms of entertainment.
“This is an opportunity for our student Veterans to socialize with the Veteran Resource Center staff and other members of the SHSU community,” said Leaf.
Food will be provided in the form of sausage wraps and hamburgers.
