Letter from the Editor: COVID-19 Update

I hope everyone is staying safe and sane during this unprecedented time in our history. I wanted to take this opportunity to reach out and let everyone know how we as a news organization plan to function in the midst of this uncertain and challenging terrain.

Despite classes being moved to online, we will continue working and bringing you the best coverage that we can offer. We will not have a print-run of our paper for the remainder of this semester, and most of our work is being done remotely in an effort to keep our staff healthy and secure. As a result, we are shifting our primary focus to digital media. Expect to see weekly newsletters from us as well as continually updated content on our webpage and our social media accounts.

Now more than ever, we at The Houstonian feel a sense of duty to the students, staff and faculty of SHSU and our readers wherever they are. We will continue to investigate, report and inform even when the circumstances get difficult. I am proud to have a staff that rises to the challenge without hesitation, as mine has done to put together this newsletter and everything you see coming from our newsroom.

From all of us on The Houstonian staff, we hope you and your families remain safe during this trying time. Please contact us with any questions you have about COVID-19, SHSU activities, community events or anything else. We also encourage you to reach out if you are interested in sharing your story with us. My personal email is smr075@shsu.edu. I am eager to hear from you.

Stay safe and stay informed,

Sharon Raissi
Editor-in-Chief
