Historic Bearkat Games that Broke Attendance Records

Football: Sept. 24, 1994

Opponent: #12 Alcorn State

Attendance: 16,148

Result: The Bearkats faced off against #12 ranked Alcorn State who was led by quarterback Steve McNair (future third overall pick in the NFL draft). The Bearkats steamrolled Alcorn State with a score of 48-23. The win can be accounted for the offense putting up 511 yards in which they gained 310 of those yards on the ground.

Volleyball: Sept. 15, 2015

Opponent: Texas State

Attendance: 1,626

Result: Sam Houston fell to Texas State three sets to none. The Bearkats put up a fight, losing the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23, but were unable to pull ahead for any set.

Mens Basketball: March 14, 2003

Opponent: Stephen F. Austin

Attendance: 5,068

Result: The Bearkats defeated the Lumberjacks in an overtime thriller 69-66. With the win, the Bearkats would advance to their first NCAA tournament in school history.

Women’s Basketball: Nov. 30, 2012

Opponent: A&M Commerce

Attendance: 3,862

Result: Sam Houston defeated A&M Commerce with an overwhelming score of 78-50. This was behind a strong offensive game as they only trailed 2-0 to begin the game and never gave up the lead. This was on their annual “pack the house” day.

Baseball: Feb. 22, 2017

Opponent: University of Texas

Attendance: 2,815

Result: The Bearkats fell to the Longhorns 7-2 after failing to take advantage of heavy traffic on the base paths. The Bearkats left 10 runners on base and also gave up a pair of homeruns which accounted for the loss.

Attendance: 709

Result: The Bearkats fell to the Aggies 9-0 in six innings. The Bearkats recorded three hits in the game.

Soccer: Oct. 27, 2017

Opponent: Stephen F. Austin

Attendance: 721

Result: The Bearkats fell to the Lumberjacks in a thrilling double overtime game 2-1. The Bearkats scored the first goal of the game in the 81st minute but would surrender the tying goal six minutes later. They would later give up the game losing goal in the 106th minute.
