With graduation around the corner, SHSU organized a job and internship fair in the Orange Ballroom where students could meet
with various companies, hosted by alumni, offering job opportunities after graduation.
Students had 20 booths to choose from such as Quantana Services, Reynolds and Reynolds, The Cole Group, Southwestern
Advantage, Enterprise Holdings, and Longview PD.
Each booth had various pamphlets along with giveaways for students to take with them after learning about the companies and
the offer they had.
A few Bearkats shared their experience at the job fair with us. We asked what their ideal job after graduation would be and if the
job fair gave them confidence in finding a job after graduation. Here’s what they had to say:
Senior
Animal Science Major
Claudia Barajas
“My ideal job would be anything with animals, probably either the Houston Zoo or the Texas Parks and Wildlife. None of the
jobs at this fair interested me but I went to one earlier in the semester that had a Texas Parks and Wildlife table which is how I
found out about the company, they gave me a lot of information about internships and moving your way up.”
Sophomore
Education Major
Allece Smith
“My ideal job after graduation would be of course education. I want to be a teacher with predominantly kids with early childhood
to 6th grade. I didn’t get much more confidence in finding a job because there weren’t any education based booths.”
Senior
Animation Major
Morgan Cowell
“My ideal job is to work for Riot Gangs to be a character designer for them. It gave me a lot more confidence walking in there
and being able to talk to people because I am autistic so this helps a lot with experience.”
Senior
Mass Communications Major
Jacob Brown
“My ideal job would be something that involves me getting out in the field for production. Ideally I want to be a director of
photography. As far as confidence I feel like yeah, there’s definitely some options that I now have. Honestly, I was a little worried
that I wasn’t going to have anything to do after I graduate but this kind of helped a little bit with finding something.”
