Sam Houston State’s women’s basketball looks to even the series against Central Arkansas tonight on senior night at Johnson Coliseum.
The Kats lost the first meeting in a close one this past Saturday in Arkansas 66-63. Junior guard Shernise Robertson’s season-high 32 points was not enough for the Kats to pull the comeback and get the win in the first meeting.
The Kats’ defense needs to come out of the gates strong and set the tone early. The Kats guards will have a tough matchup against UCA’s sophomore guard Maddie Proffitt. In the first match-up, Proffitt scored 18 total points.
The Kats’ perimeter defense needs to limit three-point attempts while the post has to fight the battle down low and not allow the easy buckets.
SHSU’s offense looks to shake off the loss from Saturday. The Kats need to not play from behind early. The Kats were down by 23 at one point in the game. Although the work has been on her shoulders all season, Robertson has to get the offense going early and be the leader SHSU is in dire need of with senior post Angela Beadle out.
The Kats need to limit their turnovers after UCA scored 19 points off turnovers last meeting. If SHSU can get out and run in transition to get easy points, SHSU will be in a prettier position down the stretch. The Bearkats need to get more production from bench players to help Robertson and sophomore guard Taylor Dorsey.
Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. tonight.
