The Easter Bunny will make a special trip to Huntsville on Saturday as one fraternity holds an event to raise money for their philanthropy.

The Zeta Mu chapter of Alpha Tau Omega is having their inaugural Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival in hopes of raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

John Brock, Alpha Tau Omega signature event chairman, said the proceeds will directly affect the Wounded Warrior Family Support Center in San Antonio. He said doing this specific donation would help the fraternity know exactly where their money raised will be going.

“The money we are raising from this event is going directly there,” Brock said. “They run strictly off of donations – no government funding of any sort – so we feel like that’s a real good way make sure we know exactly where the money is going.”

In the past, Alpha Tau Omega would have a different event that was only geared to a select group, but this year the fraternity wanted to attract more of the community.

“This is our first annual Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival,” Brock said. “In the past we have done Gladiator Dash, but that was targeted to the runners. This event is our first annual and it is focused on the community. The focus is all about the community bringing family and kids together to show the organization’s involvement here at Sam and what we do for the community.”

Admission to the carnival – to be held at Pritchett field – is free for both adults and children, with food provided.

“The tickets and everything is actually going to be free admission,” Brock said. “Adults and children can actually come to the carnival for free. We will have hot dogs, chips and drinks out there for everybody.”

According to Brock, the egg hunt will cost $5 and will be located at the Sam Houston Museum Park. Each egg will have a voucher for either a t-shirt or gift card to a Huntsville business.

“We have an Easter Egg Hunt, which is actually going to be through the trail behind the Sam Houston Museum,” Brock said. “That is actually $5 because of the bigger prizes, like the gift cards from local businesses in Huntsville and t-shirts that we are offering. Those will be hidden in the eggs.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the event.
