The NFL regular season is approaching quickly and the two Texas teams will look to face off in the Texas Governor’s Cup tomorrow at 7 in Arlington, TX.
With the quarterback battle being the main focus for Houston fans, recently Brain Hoyer was announced the starting quarterback over Ryan Mallet.
“Again, it’ll come back to consistency, it’ll come back to game management, it’ll come back to situational football, who’s been the most consistent,” O’Brien said. “It’s something that we’re studying, we’re really evaluating, again really at every position, the awareness of what’s going on in the game, how they handle different situations.”
While the Texans face an identity stage, the Dallas Cowboys may have ran into a blocking zone in the backfield with a vacant spot at the running back position.
Ex-Cowboy Demarco Murray is not on the team anymore which leaves Dallas in a battle between Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden.
“We had to wait until everybody got healthy so that we could compete for the job,” Randle said. “It’s still a running back competition, so we’ll keep grinding every day.”

Following a 2-14 season in 2013, the Texans followed up improving to 9-7 last season. The Cowboys look to live up to a high expectation held after a 12-4 season.
The big question in the Lone Star State is “Who is the best team in Texas?” Sophomore, Criminal Justice major, Xavier Perry says he has the answers.
“I mean seriously, who are the Texans,” Perry said. “You mean the Houston JJ Watts? Without him they’re honestly screwed. The guy blocks kicks, catches interceptions, force fumbles and even scores touchdowns.”
After going 12-4 last year, Perry understands that the Packers are no longer a fearful team without Jordy Nelson, raising his hopes for the Cowboys’ success in the NFC Division.
“We will go 11-5,” Perry said. “I expect to be in the Super Bowl vs the defending champions, the New England Patriots. The game will be fairly interesting through three quarters and then Cowboys wide receiver core will run through the Pats thin secondary and win by 14. Final score will be 35-21.”
A lot of Cowboys fans agree that Tony Romo got robbed of MVP last season by Aaron Rodgers.
“Offensive MVP will be Dez Bryant, not to discredit Romo,” Perry said. “Bryant will remind the nation why he just got paid and why there is no argument the best receiver in the NFL. “The offense is too much to handle and the defense is slowly improving. I have a dark horse candidate for defensive MVP and that is Randy Gregory. He is a grown man who can snag an interception and force a fumble in waning moments of a tight game.”
Sounds great if you are a Cowboys fan, but on the other side of the turf, Derron Griffin will say otherwise defending his Texans.
“Our defense makes us better than the Cowgirls,” Griffin said. “Their offense can be explosive at times, but they lack the defense to keep the opposing teams from making late comebacks.”
Griffin understands the Texans are getting back healthy and will become more comfortable with the new system under second-year head coach of the Texans, Bill O’Brien. Starter running back Arian Foster encountered a groin injury in Texans Camp which could play a vital role in the Texans’ early on season.
“I feel the Texans will do better than last year,” Griffin said. “The Texans offensive MVP will easily be Arian Foster if he can come back healthy soon. JJ Watt will be the defensive MVP of the Texans and the entire NFL again.”
The rivalry game between the two teams will be the last preseason game before the NFL season kicks off. Whoever wins will claim the title of being the best in Texas, but of course the loser will claim it is just preseason. A win is a win, but of course both teams are not expecting to play starters, so it is just preseason. Preseason or not, the rivalry lives large between the two cities.
