The Sam Houston State University School of Music will be hosting a piano ensemble recital tonight at 7:30 pm in the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center. The recital will feature works from Stravinsky, Copland, Schubert, and many others.
Graduate piano performance student Pablo Martinez talked about the preparations for the recital and his personal performances.
“We set the repertoire during this summer, and we have been working on it since then”, Martinez said. “I will be performing three pieces.”
All performances are for two pianos or four hands, meaning two people on a single piano. Martinez discussed the excitement of playing this style of music.
“We find particularly exciting the idea of playing this music, since we play solo repertoire most part of the times we perform”, Martinez said.
This recital will feature five performers, three of which are graduate students and two professors.
Graduate piano performance student Jose Ramon talked about the beginning for his passion for piano.
“I started to play piano when I was 6” Ramon said. “I am the first musician of my family and I have received all the warmth and support of my family to pursue this career”.
Ramon went on to discuss his decision to pursue his talent in higher education.
“When I was 13, I started to take part in some national and international piano competitions and had the opportunity to play with different orchestras as a soloist and I always try to improve my performance each year”, said Ramon. “Since then, I knew that I have to dedicate myself in the world of music.”
The Josu De Solaun piano recital is free to the public and will be held in the Performing Art Center recital hall.
