The Harlem Globetrotters brought their talents and unique athletic style of entertainment to Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville March 5 for a family-friendly performance. The group is a basketball team that puts a twist on the game itself by showing off extreme amounts of athleticism while pulling off tricks and funny skits that electrified the crowd.
Entering their 94th year of entertaining, they continue to become more successful every year. Currently they are traveling across the world and made a stop in Huntsville as part of their Pushing the Limits tour.
Before the game, The Houstonian caught up with guard Jet Rivers for an exclusive interview about how he is living out his dream as a member of the Globetrotters.
“Growing up, the thing for me was to be a professional basketball player,” Rivers said. “I’m basically living my dream now.”
Rivers has been a member of the Harlem Globetrotters for five years now and consistently finds the balance between work and his personal life. The team can go on tour for as little as four and a half months or as long as six months.
“I’m able to travel the world,” Rivers said. “I’m able to play for one of the most prestigious teams in the history of any sport, The Harlem Globetrotters.”
In high school Rivers was the popular kid, known amongst most of his peers but he remembers himself being quiet and serious about school. His classmates voted him “Most Likely to be Successful” but they probably didn’t know how successful he would actually get.
