The CEO of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick, has huge expectations for the company’s upcoming game “Destiny,” predicting it will become the best-selling game ever.
According to IGN, He made the very bold prediction about the game in today’s earnings call with investors:
“We expect Bungie’s Destiny, an innovative shared-world, first-person action game to be Activision Publishing’s next billion dollar franchise,” he said. “Destiny will be the best-selling video game in history.”
The game has received a ton of hype from sites all over the internet after its showing at last summer’s E3 convention, which you can watch for yourself below.
Some gamers think that the first person shooter genre’s offerings have become a bit bland such as Steven Hansen, a writer for the site Destructoid, but they are excited about Destiny:
I wasn’t impressed by Destiny before, but I’m more than interested now that I’ve seen it running in-person. A part of me sort of begrudged remembering that, at the end of the day, it’s a first-person shooter, but it’s a damn fine-looking one all the same.
The developers of “Destiny,” Bungie Software, are no stranger to success, having created the widely popular Halo franchise.
Activision Blizzard has also published and developed many games that have received a great deal of critical acclaim, including franchises such as Call of Duty, Skylanders, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo.
With the combination of Activision’s publishing and Bungie’s developing of the game, perhaps Kotick’s statement isn’t so extreme after all.
A video on IGN lists nine reasons their employees are excited about the game, which you can watch here.
