We all know registering for classes is a hassle, but Sam Houston State University puts the ‘h’ in hassle. At SHSU, we start the order of registration from Honors, Doctoral and Master’s, to seniors down to freshmen from April 13-20. While also trying to get advised, it is safe to say that this year’s registration was unexpected for a lot of students.
With finals approaching and students trying to get ahead in their classes, registration suddenly became something we had to prepare for quickly. Honors, Doctoral and seniors registration went smoothly, but it started taking a turn as soon as juniors, sophomores and freshmen tried registering.
“This was my first time registering, and I went to get advised before I signed up for classes,” freshman Theatre major Essence Fontenot said. “When I was going to register, my account was not letting me in, and it took an hour-and-a-half for me to finish registering. All classes were booked, so it was hard finding classes.”
It seems that some internet issues were causing problems for students who were trying to register. Others struggled with classes being full, making them start over to try to find another class, while others had problems with accessing their MySam account. Some students were also having problems with the fact that several classes did not yet have an assigned professor.
“I was not pleased with registration due to the fact that some of my classes that I need to take don’t have a professor assigned yet, which is frustrating because I don’t know who I have,” junior Mass Communication major Mackailyn Johnson said.
With the end of the year coming soon, it is best to make sure you finish getting advised and pay any fines or dues to make sure you can register on time. Since this year’s registration for Fall 2018 was unexpected, hopefully next year will be somewhat successful.
