The Sam Houston State University Department of Student Affairs seeks to offer support during finals week with De-Stress Fest April 30-May 3.
“This event is organized to hopefully provide a little relief, and a healthy distraction from the busyness of the end of the semester,” Associate Director of the Counseling Center Shantha Stokes said.
To kick off the festival, free scantrons, apples and snacks will be available April 30 and May 1 in the LSC mall area from 9 a.m. until noon.
A screening of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will play Monday in the Lowman Student Center Theater at 6 p.m. with free popcorn provided.
Students can unwind at a Relaxation Station on May 1 in the LSC Atrium from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The station includes aromatherapy, puzzles, brain games and foot massages. Those who are in-line will be supplied with board games and coloring books to pass the time.
May 2 is Paws & Kisses in the LSC mall area from 10 a.m.-noon. Various Huntsville puppies will be there to provide love and comfort to SHSU students.
Free hot dogs and ice cream will be passed out on May 3 in the LSC mall area from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. There will also be a chance for students to win in the grilling games raffle. Prizes include an iPad, a $100 Barnes and Noble gift card, a diploma frame, an Alexa, a Fitbit and a $100 SHSU Bookstore shopping spree.
The prizes will be raffled every 30 minutes, and winners do not have to be present at the time of the drawing to win. Instead, all winners will be contacted to collect their prize(s).
“Students can increase their chances of winning by completing a raffle ticket at each event they attend,” said Stokes. “The more events you attend the more chances you have to win.”
The Recreational Sports Center will offer free fitness classes and rock climbing April 30-May 9.
“It’s a time for students to de-stress with members of the SHSU community and reflect on the year’s accomplishments,” Stokes said.
