The Sam Houston women’s volleyball team defeated Texas A&M Corpus-Christi Islanders 3-1 Thursday evening at Johnson Coliseum. This win gives the Bearkats their fifth Southland Conference win of the season and their fifth win in a row.
The Bearkats have not lost a game since their opening day defeat when they fell to the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears in five sets.
The Bearkats lost the opening set of the game with a score of 25-20 but never looked back after the first set loss.
Sam Houston followed the first set loss with a sweep the rest of the way, finishing the job in four total sets.
The Bearkats squeaked by in the second set with a score of 25-23 but dominated the following sets. They won the third with a crushing score of 25-11 and finished out the game with a 25-20 fourth set win.
Senior outside hitter Ashley Lewis led the team with 19 kills, followed closely by sophomore outside hitter Samantha Rodgers with 12 kills.
Sophomore setter Morgan Janda on the Bearkats team finished the game with 31 assists and 12 digs.
Three Bearkats tied in the game for total digs with 13; freshman libero Hannah Baker, sophomore outside hitter Catherine Krieger and Lewis to cap it off.
The Bearkats women’s volleyball team will travel to Beaumont to take on Lamar University at 3 p.m. on March 7.
