Hundreds of people equipped with bags and masks gathered on Main Street this Saturday for some candy, food and scary sights.
The annual Scare on the Square event kicked off the holiday weekend with the Trunk-or-Treat event, food, games and a Halloween costume contest in downtown Huntsville, Texas. Dozens of local businesses and organizations set up tents or decorated the trunks of their vehicles to celebrate the spooky season.
“I’ve seen vampires to dinosaurs, Paw Patrol to Chucky and I think they’re all awesome,” T-Mobile representative Maribell Jimenez said.
Jimenez was glad to participate for the first time in this year’s event. As a T-Mobile representative for the communities outside of Houston, her job is to get to know the towns and the people. Though Jimenez is new to Scare on the Square, this is not her first time in Huntsville. T-Mobile has participated in other events in the town, which has left a positive impact on Jimenez.
“The community is very welcoming, very open,” Jimenez said. “I love it out here.”
Director of The Wynne Home Arts and Visitor Center Sarah Faulkner was one of the new faces to the event. While she does not live in Huntsville, she was still happy to help out and provide good times to the community.
The tent she represented consisted of fun games that provided prizes and candies for all to come try and win. The experience for Faulkner is just as rewarding for her.
“It seems like people are really enjoying themselves and having fun,” Faulkner said. “We love seeing people enjoy themselves at our events.”
Many people embraced the opportunity to have fun and be with the community. Huntsville residents Kelsey Billasano along with Anthony Herrera took to the street dressed as their favorite superheroes.
Enthusiastic lovers of the Marvel universe, Billasano and Herrera came as Carnage and Spider-Man, which caught the eye of every child. The two did not hesitate to pose for a picture with trick-or-treaters.
“I like seeing all the kids excited to see Spiderman,” Billasano said.
