The Sam Houston men’s basketball team opened up their season Nov. 10 defeating LeTourneau 97-54 at home.

This game kicked off the basketball programs first matchup after leaving the Southland Conference and joining the Western Athletic Conference.

Senior guard Demarkus Lampley and graduate guard Savion Flagg scored 20 points each coming out as the game leading scorers. This was Flagg’s first game as a Bearkat after transferring from A&M University.

Junior froward Tristan Ikpe led both teams in rebounds with 16 in the game.

Sam Houston was able to outmatch the Yellowjacket’s as they ended the game with 59 rebounds, 24 more than Letourneau.

Sam Houston led 49-33 at the first half of the game and kept the lead throughout the game, out-scoring LeTourneau by 27 points in the second half of the game.

They shot 42.7% from the field and 26.3% percent from behind the three-point line.

The Bearkats controlled the whole game convincingly, leading by as much as 44 at one point. They also had four players in double digits who consisted of two starters and two players off the bench.

Every player that was active on the Sam Houston roster contributed at least one point to the total score. Lampley had a total of 13 points at the half with nine of those points coming from behind the three-point line.

Sam Houston has two days to prepare for the University of Nebraska who fell short to Western Illinois University by one point. Sam Houston will be on the road against the Huskers looking to get their second win of the season Friday, Nov. 12.
