Sam Houston Bearkat women’s soccer were handed their third straight loss Saturday as they lost 1-0 to the New Mexico State Aggies.

It was an offensively aggressive game for both sides. The attacking kept the goalkeepers busy.

The Bearkats (3-9-2, 2-6-1) started senior goalkeeper Tatum Krueger on senior day.

The Aggies (8-4-3, 5-2-2) started fifth year goalkeeper Makenna Gottschalk.

Both goalkeepers had to handle a staggering 26 shots total, with 11 on goal, combined.

New Mexico State had 15 shots with seven on goal, while the Sam Houston had 11 shots with four on goal.

Gottschalk had four saves and Krueger had six saves.

After a scoreless first half, the Aggies struck with a goal in the 59th minute from junior midfielder Loma McNeese, assisted by junior forward Bella Garcia.

The Bearkats played aggressive until the end. They got close on chances but were either just inches away from connecting or the Aggie defense was there.

Freshman midfielder Kinsey Hill led the Bearkats with three shots, two on goal.

The Bearkats are in danger of missing the Western Athletic Conference tournament but look to get back on track in the final two games.

They will head to Riverside, California, to face the California Baptist Lancers (6-3-4, 3-2-2) on Oct. 27 to begin a two-game road trip.
