Head coach Ravon Justice achieved her 100th career coaching win Thursday as the Sam Houston Bearkats dominated the Tarleton State Texans 81-66.
Not only was it a big milestone win for Justice, it was one the Bearakts (7-9, 3-3) needed as it snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Texans (7-11, 1-6) kept it close in the first half where it saw them only down six points against the Bearkats at halftime.
When the second half got underway, Sam Houston took over the game and never looked back.
The game comes off a 25-point game by senior forward Madelyn Batista. Batista also displayed her rebounding skills with six, including three offensive rebounds.
Batista shot 56.3% from the field and went 7-for-8 at the free throw line.
Graduate transfer Chyna Allen had an all-around game with 14 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore Mikayla Woods almost notched her first career double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Junior forward Raanee Smith also was close to a double-double with six points and seven rebounds.
Allen, Woods and Smith each got two steals, which contributed to the team total of nine on the night.
The Texans didn’t help their case for this game as they turned the ball over 30 times to the Bearkats 18.
Tarelton State were led by senior guard Mayra Caicedo and sophomore forward Elise Turrubiates. They had 12 and 11 points respectively.
Sam Houston will now head back home to Huntsville, Texas, as they will begin a two-game homestand Saturday against the Utah Valley Wolverines.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and on the radio on 90.5 KSHU The Kat.
