If live music is something that you are into, then you are going to want to check out Sundown at Sam’s. This live music event will be held on the grounds at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum & Republic of Texas Presidential Library and will feature music such as Country, Americana, Blues, Gospel, and Bluegrass. The best part about this event? Admission to hear this music is free!
This event will take place on three different evenings this spring. The first night of music starts on Thursday, April 20th at 6:30 p.m. This first night of music will be guaranteed some fun with live music and will feature two local artists. The first, Jesse Wortham, is a Blues/Gospel singer. Jesse is a native from Huntsville, Texas, and is involved heavily in his church ministry where his dad also happens to be the pastor. He is currently a member of the band Creative Touch and has a recording Gospel Group NuFocus. The second artist of the night is Logan McCune. McCune now resides in Bryan, Texas but did live in Huntsville for 13 years. He has been known to play many genre styles of music but is known for his Country/Americana style.
The second night of music will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 6:30 p.m. This will be a fun night to check out and will also feature two local artists. The first, Mary-Charlotte Young, a singer-songwriter based in Central Texas. Though she has lived in Texas for about 15 years, she was born in Western North Carolina and grew up in Southeast Georgia. “I like to think that my musical style reflects my geographical background: hints of Mountain Folk, Georgia Soul, Classic Country, and Vintage Rock n’ Roll. As I consider myself to be a writer first, I would say that I’m most looking forward to playing for folks that will be hearing my songs for the first time,” said Young. The second Artist of the night will be Gail Ryder, another Singer/Songwriter from Texas who has many ties to Huntsville.
The third and final night of the concert event is one you will not want to miss and will be held on Thursday, May 18th at 6:30 p.m. This night will be Bluegrass Music and will feature the band Tin Top Road. Tin Top Road is a five-member group band from East Texas that will be closing out the live music event.
All the music will be held on the stage which is located on the museum grounds between the Steamboat House and Wigwam Neosho Museum Store. The admission for this event is free and you are encouraged to bring your chairs and blankets in case the weather is cool in the evenings. As for food and drinks, you can bring your own snacks and drinks, but no glass containers will be permitted. You are also more than welcome to purchase your snacks and drinks from the C.A.T. Café. It is Springtime, so there is always a chance that there could be rain. If it does begin to rain the music will then be moved inside to the museum’s auditorium in the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center. Come out and support your local Community and Artists with a night of free live music and guaranteed fun.
