Sam Houston State University made a new addition to the campus. Sammy’s huge chair’ was revealed on November 18th as part of the homecoming festivities on campus.
The Sam Houston State University Department of Student Activities and the Alumni Association presented a full week of homecoming celebrations in preparation for the football game against Southern Utah University. The huge chair was set up outside the Loman Student Center for students and staff to enjoy.
The university’s social media websites brought attention to the chair and encouraged everyone to take their pictures with the chair and use the hashtag: #SammysHugeChair.
“It was very unexpected, they put the chair up and there were just a bunch of people posing and taking pictures with it”, says Sol Reyes, a freshman at Sam Houston State University. “The chair was apparently a surprise that the school had kept secret for some time and finally brought to light. I think it is a cool addition to the campus”.
Although there is no exact reasoning or meaning behind the surprise secret chair, students around campus are having their fun with the new addition.
“I’m very happy to see how much effort the university has put onto the campus this year”, says Eric Aguilar, a Sam Houston State University Alumni. “I think the COVID-19 pandemic really took a toll on all of us. Campus did not feel the same for the longest time even after the pandemic but now getting to come back and see all the new additions to campus, and all of the holiday decorations and consideration of each celebration is truly awesome to see. I think this chair will mean a lot more with time”.
