Sam Houston State baseball dominated Prairie View A&M with a 10-3 victory Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium.

The Kats improve to 5-4 on the season with the win.

“We did a nice job of just hanging in there and not panicking,” head coach Matt Deggs said. “Ultimately, they cracked and we made the most of it.”

Senior Derrick Hadley took the mound for the Kats for his first career appearance at SHSU, his first outing in nearly three years. The Kats found themselves down early after giving up three runs in the top of the second inning. Hadley was taken off the mound in the third inning, finishing his first stint with four strikeouts. Senior mid-relief pitcher Alex Bisacca took the mound and delivered yet another stellar performance for the Kats in which he only allowed one hit in three innings. Bisacca and the rest of the bullpen did not allow a single run the rest of the game, and the four relief pitchers combined to only allow four hits.

“It makes it really easy when you got the defense that we have behind you,” Bisacca said.

The Kats were hot offensively behind juniors Collin Yelich and Spence Rahm. Yellich went 4-for-4 at the dish and added two RBIs while Rahm knocked three doubles for four RBIs. The Kats scored 10 runs on 17 hits, with all 10 runs being unanswered by the Panthers.

“As a team, we all went out and competed,” Yelich said. “I just happened to get four hits. I’ll take it when I can get it.”

The Kats now have to turn things around for a weekend series against Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe. First pitch is Friday at 6 p.m.
