Sam Houston State students now have the opportunity to create and produce content for Channel 7 through Bearkat Studios.
Last week, graduate student and Bearkat Studios creator Judson Touby announced to the new organization hopefuls that Bearkat Studios is granted full registration as an official organization at SHSU.
“Students from across the university have already joined Bearkat Studios and hopefully it will continue to grow,” Touby said. “We’re currently working on several series including a sketch comedy show, an improv game show, a daytime style talk show and a talent competition series. We’re hoping to launch our lineup of student produced series on channel 7 this November in time for Sweeps.”
Touby is a four-time Daytime Emmy Award-winning producer with over a decade of experience in producing nationally syndicated network television and cable series.
“I’ve always loved television,” Touby said. “When I was a kid I loved watching it, and as an adult I love making it.”
Touby worked as a producer on five of Fox’s nationally syndicated daytime court shows. It was during his time at Fox that Toby received three of his Emmys for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program for the series “Christina’s Court.”
He received his fourth Daytime Emmy Award in 2012 for producing on the series “Last Shot with Judge Gunn.”
“I really enjoyed my time working as a producer in Los Angeles, but after the fourth Emmy I decided it was time to try something else,” Touby said. “During my time with Fox, I had the opportunity to work in Houston on several of the daytime court shows that were produced at Fox 26. I immediately fell in love with Texas and when the opportunity arose for me to continue my education, I knew that Texas was where I wanted to be.”
In addition to Fox, Touby produced series for ABC, MTV, VH1, Telepictures and Sony Pictures Television.
Currently, Touby is working on his masters in Digital Media at SHSU. Upon graduation next spring, Touby hopes to remain in academia and begin the next phase of his career as a professor teaching television and video production.
