The Kat Klub will be hosting the annual FIFA Xbox 360 tournament today at 6 p.m.
Despite being hosted by the Kat Klub, the tournament is actually organized by Sam Houston State Intramural Sports. Senior Assistant Director of Intramural and Club Sports Brian Weaver spoke about the annual attendance of the tournament.
“We are hoping to see as many people as possible compete in the tournament this year,” Weaver said. “The hope is to have 20 to 30 people attend, but since its inception in 2006, there have usually been 15 to 20 competitors each year.”
The tournament will be played on Xbox 360s using copies of FIFA 16: the newest iteration of the FIFA series that has released annually since 1993.
The core mechanics of the game series have changed little since the early 2000’s, helping it build an enormous following. The easily understood gameplay and simple controls also allow for this FIFA tournament to be an attainable win for any new players looking to put their best foot, or controller, forward and have fun.
Players will be eliminated after their first loss of the night. The winner of the tournament will be going home with a blue SHSU Intramural Sports t-shirt.
Registration is free and can be done online or at the Kat Klub from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
