The National Parks Photography Project exhibit reception will be held on Wednesday, March 30 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Sam Houston Memorial Museum Exhibit Gallery to honor photographer Mark Burns.

Sam Houston Memorial Museum Coordinator Megan Buro is excited to be able to host the event in its 100 year.

“The exhibition will highlight The National Park Service that is celebrating its centennial here in 2016, so this exhibit highlights the 59 National Parks,” Buro said.

Buro hopes the exhibit will spark interest in the community to visit national parks.

“When I saw the images for the first time during installation I was in awe,” Buro said. “I have been to several National Parks but when looking at the photographs it makes you want to go visit them all. I hope when someone visits the exhibit it will make them want to visit a National Park or two.  Some may even look at the photographs and try to count how many National Parks they have been to.”

Sam Houston State University students are invited to experience the National Parks without leaving Texas.

This exhibit will showcase the importance of visual imagery and what role it plays in the creation of National Parks all while it showcases the rich history of the parks.

The exhibit will continue there through May 22, 2016.
