Pop star Rihanna launched her own makeup line, Fenty Beauty, on Sept. 8. Fans were excited about the line, but what drew more attention to the line was the fact that there were 40 different foundation shades. Women of color felt like they would finally be represented well in the makeup industry. There are very few makeup lines that provide shades for women of color, and for Rihanna to drop all of these diverse foundation shades on her first launch made a groundbreaking mark.
One makeup brand that has been popular among women of color is MAC Cosmetics. Fenty Beauty’s foundation, however, is around 10 dollars cheaper, meaning the makeup is something that not only represents the masses, but is affordable, as well.
Fenty Beauty is not only for women of color, but for everyone across the globe. The palest and the darkest people in the room are able to benefit from the line. Rihanna’s statement on Fenty Beauty’s website says “Fenty Beauty was created for everyone: for women all shades, personalities, attitudes, cultures, and races.” She ended her statement by saying she wanted everyone to feel included. She also expressed that she wanted this line to enhance natural beauty.
Customers of Fenty Beauty definitely felt included, and are appreciative of the fact that the makeup line is so diverse. Beauty bloggers of all skin tones responded well to Fenty Beauty. Even Gabby Sidibe, “Empire” actress, approved of the line. She posted a picture of herself on her twitter account with the caption “In case you’re wondering about Fenty Beauty on dark skin, issa YES for me dawg.”
I’m a girl that’s really into makeup, but when I first heard about this line I told myself I wasn’t going to fall into the hype of Fenty Beauty. I saw the promo video for the line, and I was very proud that women of darker pigments would be represented by Rihanna, but I still didn’t feel the need to purchase anything. One of my best friends kept raving about what she was hearing about the line, and she kind of persuaded me to go see what all the hype was about.
When the makeup dropped, I went in to Sephora just to check out the products, but I still wasn’t sure if I was going to buy anything. I eventually fell into the hype. When I walked into Sephora, I expected it all to be sold out because Fenty Beauty had been the talk of the town since the promo video dropped on social media. I was overwhelmed by the products, but they were all so beautiful. I ended up buying a foundation and a highlighter. I wanted to go back for more, but I didn’t. I definitely will be purchasing more products in the near future! I’m very impressed and happy with the products I purchased.
For this to be a new line, Rihanna put together all the things that people who love makeup wanted to see. The foundation is very light, but it still gives you a photo-finish look and lasts all day, and the highlighters are to die for. The highlighters and shimmer sticks are my favorite items of Fenty Beauty.
Thank you, Rihanna, for creating something so spectacular that caters to the needs of every woman. Thank you for making us all feel beautiful! Rihanna can add Fenty Beauty to her long list of accomplishments!
We all know she makes music, but she also has a clothing line with Puma, and now makeup. The Fenty Beauty collection includes the 40 diverse foundation shades, highlighters, contour and concealer sticks, shimmer sticks, brushes, a beauty sponge, and one lip gloss.
That’s not all for Fenty Beauty, however. Rihanna is adding a holiday collection that will introduce new products to Fenty Beauty on Oct. 13. Rihanna is making even more moves that are outside of the beauty industry. She is launching a fall collection with Puma on Sept. 28. She also trademarked her last name, Fenty, for a skincare line and wine. Rihanna is doing big things and taking over every industry!
