This week’s ‘Who’s that Kat?’ features Jason Hooten, head basketball coach for the Sam Houston University Bearkats.
As of Oct. 17, Hooten has an all-time record of 138-98 as a head coach. That’s a winning percentage of .585.
His playing career consisted of a stint at McLennan Community College from 1987-89.
He would then play at Tarleton State University from 1989-91.
Hooten took over as the head coach at SHSU in 2010, winning his inaugural game 72-47 on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Bearkats would earn the #3 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament that season.
He is the nineteenth head basketball coach in SHSU history. From 2014-2016, Hooten led the Bearkats to three consecutive CollegeInsider.com Tournaments.
Since the 2013 season, the Kats have won 89 games, the most ever in a four-year span.
