Mississippi Highway Patrol investigates a fatal e-bike crash on Mississippi 18 near Morrow Road

JACKSON, MS — A Brandon man died Wednesday evening after an e-bike collided with a pickup truck on Mississippi 18 in Rankin County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the rider as 47-year-old Christopher Terry. Troopers said the crash happened near Morrow Road at about 7:42 p.m. and involved a westbound e-bike and a westbound Chevrolet Silverado.

Terry was flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he later died. The truck driver was not hurt.

Crash happened near Morrow Road around sunset

State troopers said the collision took place on a stretch of Mississippi 18 near Morrow Road, a roadway that carries both local traffic and drivers moving through Rankin County. The timing, shortly before 8 p.m., placed the wreck during the early evening when traffic can still be active.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Terry was traveling west on the e-bike when he collided with the pickup. The other vehicle was a westbound 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 46-year-old Bradley Beyer of Mendenhall.

No details have been released about the exact movements of either vehicle immediately before impact, and troopers have not said whether anything else contributed to the crash.

Christopher Terry was flown to UMMC in Jackson

Emergency responders transported Terry by air to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the state’s major trauma hospital in Jackson. He later died from his injuries there, according to the Highway Patrol.

The crash turned fatal despite that rapid medical response, underscoring the severity of the collision. Officials did not release additional information about the extent of Terry’s injuries or the time of death.

Beyer was not injured in the wreck, troopers said. No other vehicles or injuries were reported.

Mississippi Highway Patrol is leading the investigation

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into what caused the collision. At this stage, investigators have confirmed the time, location, vehicles involved, and the identities of the two men.

Troopers have not publicly announced any charges or citations. They also have not said whether speed, visibility, road position, or other factors may have played a role.

For now, the case remains an active traffic fatality investigation in Rankin County as authorities work to reconstruct the sequence of events.

E-bike crashes can be especially dangerous on busy roads

The wreck adds to growing concern around the safety of e-bike riders sharing roadways with larger vehicles. When a collision involves a pickup truck and a lighter, smaller-rimmed electric bike, the rider often faces the greatest risk of serious injury.

That danger is especially pronounced on state highways and other routes where vehicles may be traveling at higher speeds or where lighting can be limited after dark. Wednesday’s crash took place after sunset, though investigators have not said whether darkness was a factor.

Authorities have not described Terry’s safety gear or whether the e-bike had lighting or reflective equipment.

What investigators have confirmed so far

So far, officials have confirmed a simple but tragic sequence: Terry was riding west on Mississippi 18, the Silverado was also traveling west, and the two collided near Morrow Road around 7:42 p.m. Wednesday.

Terry was airlifted to Jackson and later died. Beyer, the driver of the pickup, was not injured.

The Highway Patrol has not released further findings, and the investigation remains open.
