From Nov. 4 to Dec. 6 the Department of Leadership Initiatives is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Walker County to spread holiday cheer to kids within the community.
Each year Leadership Initiatives puts on a service program called the “Tree of Hope” and adopts 10 anonymous children who provided their Christmas wish list to the Boys & Girls Club. They put each gift on an ornament that goes on a tree in their office.
Sam Houston State University students, faculty and staff can stop by the Leadership Initiatives office located in Suite 326 of the Lowman Student Center and select a gift off the tree to purchase and donate to help fulfill a child’s holiday wish.
“This program is special because everything is done anonymously,” Leadership Initiatives Program Specialist Emily Snider said. “The children do not know that our office receives their wish list, and the Boys & Girls Club will not know who gave what.”
Children were asked to provide their sizes for clothes, shoes and socks, as well as four other toys, books or games that they would like.
“Sprits are high this time of year and it is always nice to see how giving back to someone else brings joy to everyone involved,” Snider said.
