Girl Scout cookie season 2020 started on Feb. 1, and the troops are in full swing.

Local scouts can be found outside of local businesses like Walmart, HEB and Kroger on select days until the official end of sales on March 22. 

Girlscouts.org has a feature called “find cookies” where you can enter your zip code and browse the booth locations near you. It gives information as to which troop is selling in your area as well as their locations and times for sales.

The local council decided to sell the boxes at $5 each this year. The proceeds can be used for year-round funding within the council and to ensure the girls have necessary supplies and activities.

“Our financial aid for our council is really great, so a part of these cookie sales does go back to funding financial aid,” Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council troop leader Heather Arlt said.

The local troop also used this time to reach out to the community for volunteers to help the girls.

“I love to come out and help,” volunteer Alyce Lewis said. “So, we recommend college students [to come volunteer] because they are role models for our kids of the future.”

According to girlscouts.org, consumers of these sweet treats help to power new experiences for girls that teach them essential life skills and prepare them for a lifetime of leadership.
