The Sam Houston softball team was defeated in a midweek battle at home against the No. 14 ranked University of Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns.
With the loss, the Bearkats have now lost eight of their last nine games, being outscored 51-13 in this recent skid.
There were signs of hope for the Bearkats softball team as they head to the middle part of their season as they were able to fight back from a three-run deficit that came in the third inning. After Louisiana scored three runs in the top of the third inning, the Bearkats responded by tying the game just an inning later in the bottom of the fourth.
Sophomore third baseman Kyndal Kutac opened the scoring for the Bearkats after reaching an error by the shortstop of Louisiana that brought home two runners. Freshman designated player Taylor Bachmeyer would tie the game just an inning later with her first collegiate hit and home run that evened the game at three.
Louisiana would go on to run away with the game in the sixth inning as they would score five more in the final three innings, with three of the runs coming in the sixth inning.
Sophomore pitcher Regan Dunn would be charged with the loss as she accounted for seven of the eight runs scored by the Ragin’ Cajuns, six of which were earned. With the loss, she now moves to 4-6 overall on the season.
The Bearkats will look to bounce back and put an end to the losing ways this weekend as they will travel to Abilene Christian University to take on the Wildcats in a three-game series starting Friday, April 9, with a doubleheader.
