After finishing their season undefeated with a win against the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Saturday, the Sam Houston Bearkats will be returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
After their impressive season, the Bearkats were awarded the No. 2 seed in the FCS following the No. 1 seed South Dakota State University.
With this seeding, the Bearkats will host at least one playoff game in Huntsville, Texas, at Bowers Stadium. This will play an advantage to the Bearkats as they are 13-0 all-time at Bowers stadium. Not only that, head coach K.C. Keeler is 27-0 in his career in home playoff games.
The Bearkats were one of the best teams in the country as they finished 6-0 with three top 25 wins against Southeastern Louisiana University, Nicholls State University and UIW.
Sam Houston’s last playoff game back in 2017 resulted in a crushing 55-13 defeat against the North Dakota State University Bison. The two teams would match up in the second round of the playoffs at Bowers if both teams win their first games.
The Bearkats will host the Monmouth University Hawks Saturday, April 24 at 11 a.m. to open their playoff run.
