The Sam Houston Bearkat soccer team lost to the Utah Valley University Wolverines 6-1 in the first round of the WAC Tournament to officially end their first season in a new conference.
The Bearkats had five shots throughout the game with one coming in the first half and four in the second. The Bearkats only goal of the game came in the 53rd minute by freshman midfielder Summer Knox who was assisted by junior defender Rachel Downey.
The Wolverines had 33 shots total with 13 in the first half and 20 in the second half. They had six total goals on the night, three coming in each half. The first goal of the game came in the 8th minute of the game. From then on, the Bearkats defense would be no match for the Wolverines.
Knox led the way with shots, having two totals on the game. Senior defender Danielle Forsyth registered the only other shot on goal for the Bearkats.
Overall, the Bearkats finished their first WAC season exceeding expectations by qualifying for the tournament after being chosen to finish second to last in their division. They finish the season with a 6-4 conference record while only losing one game at home in both conference and non-conference matchups.
