The Bearkats couldn’t muster even a goal in the two-game Utah road trip as they lost 1-0 to the Utah Tech Trailblazers and 2-0 against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Friday and Sunday respectively.
First off in St. George Utah, the Bearkats and Trailblazers couldn’t put a ball to the back of the net in the first half.
Senior goalkeeper Tatum Krueger held her own in that first half, compiling four saves.
The Bearkats, however, couldn’t get anything going in the second half unlike Utah Tech who were finally able to get past Krueger.
Junior Trailblazer forward Brynlee Roberts scored the go-ahead goal off of an assist by junior defender Gracie Knutzen in the 54th minute.
It was Roberts’s first goal of the season and Kuntzen’s first assist of the season.
The Bearkats couldn’t overcome it and lost 1-0.
Freshman midfielder Kinsey Hill led the Bearkats in shots with four, two were on goal.
After a day off, the Bearkats got back into action to face the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in Cedar City, Utah.
The Bearkats couldn’t handle Southern Utah’s offensive outburst as they gave up two first half goals.
Redshirt freshman Whitney Wangsgard scored her sixth goal of the season in the fifth minute of the match.
Sophomore midfielder Hailey Hamataka delivered the assist.
Freshman forward Sammie Sofonia then scored a goal in the 34th minute to make it 2-0 for the Trailblazers, her seventh of the season.
The Bearkats were able to get 17 shots off with seven on goal.
But they couldn’t get one to the back of the net.
Junior forward Landri Townsend led the Bearkats with five shots, two on target.
Tatum Krueger had seven saves.
The Bearkats are now eighth place in the Western Athletic Conference standings heading into the final stretch of the season.
Sam Houston is 3-8-2 overall and 2-5-1 in conference.
Their next game is the final home game of the season as they will face the second place New Mexico State Aggies (7-4-3, 4-2-2 WAC) in Huntsville, Texas this Saturday October 15.
