The Sam Houston Bearkat volleyball team lost in blowout fashion to the California Baptist Lancers 3-0 on Thursday at Van Dyne Gym in Riverside, California.
The Bearkats (6-19, 3-8) were slow out of the gate to start the game, losing the first set to the Lancers (9-12, 4-6) 25-17.
The second set looked like it was going to be a different story. After a close first few points with the Bearkats leading 8-6 the Bearkats would go on a 10-4 run to take a commanding 18-10 lead.
That, however, would be short lived as the Lancers came storming back to tie the set at 23-23 before winning the set 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was much like the first set with the Lancers toying around with the Bearkats for much of the set, winning the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
Freshman middle blocker Madison Dyer would continue to dominate at the net leading the team in both kills and blocks with 11 and three respectively.
Sophomore libero Hannah Baker would continue to dominate on defense as well leading the team in digs alongside sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Fielder and freshman setter Avery Fowler with eight.
Avery Fowler also led the team in assists with 26. She was two digs shy of her fifth double-double of the season.
The Lancers were led by senior libero, Paige Johnstone, who led the team in digs and aces with two and 15 respectively and had six assists as well.
The Bearkats will be back in action on Saturday as they finish their four game road trip against the Grand Canyon Antelopes (11-9, 5-4) at 6:30 p.m. central time.
That game can be watched on ESPN+ as well as WAC Digital Network for international viewers.
