Sam Houston Bearkat women’s basketball defeated the Seattle U Redhawks 67-60 Thursday night in Seattle.
The Bearkats (10-10, 6-4) and the Redhawks (3-17, 3-7) faced each other back on Dec. 29, 2022, at Huntsville, Texas, where the Bearkats came out on top in dominating fashion 92-72.
It was close this time around.
There were eight lead changes in the game.
In the end the Bearkats were the ones to stay hot as they built off a 20-point third quarter in which they took the lead with 1:41 left in that quarter and did not look back the rest of the way.
Senior forward Madelyn Batista led the Bearkats with her fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
She also added two blocks to her line.
Graduate transfer Chyna Allen continued her consistently good season with 19 points.
Sophomore guard Sydnee Kemp had nine points.
Redshirt junior forward Kaylee Jefferson and redshirt sophomore guard Mikayla Woods had seven points each while both had seven rebounds and six rebounds respectively.
The Redhawks were led by a good all-around performance by sophomore guard Taliyah Clark who had 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and an impressive six steals.
The Bearkats will now head to Riverside, CA, where they have a Saturday afternoon meet up with the California Baptist Lancers.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT.
