Sam Houston Bearkat women’s basketball fall to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks in Nacogdoches, Texas, 71-56 Thursday night.
The Bearkats (12-13, 8-7) were onto the Ladyjacks (23-5, 13-5) early in the game when they went up 22-16 at the end of the first quarter.
SFA would eventually take the lead back and go up at halftime up 35-32.
With a potential stunner brewing up, the Ladyjacks made sure that did not happen.
They outscored the Bearkats 36-24 in the second half to win it.
SHSU shot only 31.8% from the field while SFA shot an impressive 50% as a team.
Sophomore transfer guard Tierney Coleman led the team with 21 points along with four steals.
Redshirt sophomore Mikayla Woods got 11 points.
Senior forward Madelyn Batista nearly notched another double-double as she got nine points and nine rebounds.
Sam Houston looks to bounce back and get a more favorable seed for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Las Vegas.
They will have a chance to next up against the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros Saturday in Edinburg, Texas.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
