The Sam Houston State Bearkats are looking to hit MORE HOMR RUNS this upcoming 2023
season.
The past season, the Sam Houston Bearkats won 15 out of 39 of their games. Head coach of the
softball team, Garrett Valis, has signed four new players this year, including infielder Kylie
Bishop, infielder Morgan Holiday and catcher Julia Herzinger. These three players will play their
first game with Sam Houston in the upcoming 2023 softball season.
Bishop played travel ball for the Cy Fair Intruders and was selected as the Top 200 third
baseman by Extra Innings Softball. Valis says “Her talent determination and personality fit or
culture so well. I really like her ability to play multiple infield positions with experience at
second, shortstop and third base. She is consistent offensive player who loves getting dirty to
make a play, she is going to fit in very well here”. Valis also says “Julia brings experience and
gritty leadership to this class from the catching position. She will not be outworked and plays
the game with power at the plate which I see translating well at our level. I look forward to
seeing her competitiveness toughness and ability to drive the softball on a daily basis. It will be
fun to watch”.
This Sam Houston State University Softball team looks forward to their future fall exhibitions.
