Sam Houston State University is looking to take on another STRIKING season with the Women’s bowling team.
Last Season, the Women’s Bowling team represented SHSU all over the country, including Tulane, North Carolina, Louisiana Tech, Prairie View, and many more.
After having one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history, Sam Houston State University has three bowers that were recognized on the NTCH All-Region team. There bowlers were sophomore Denise Blankenzee, graduate student Elise Chambers, and senior Hayley Connelly.
In the upcoming 2022-23 season, the Bearkats look forward to playing Sacred Heart University, at the Prairie View Invitational, Bulldog Classic, against Arkansas State, at the Stallings Invitational, Music City Classic, and finally at the Southland Bowling League Championships.
The Bearkat Bowling team so far this season have player at the Tulane Invitational, vs Track Kat Klash and at Maryland Eastern Shore. They placed 5th out of 15 teams, 4th out of 20 teams, and 7th out of 18 teams.
Brad Hagan, Head Women’s Bowling Coach at Sam Houston State, led the Bearkats to the NCAA championships for eight seasons. In his interview with Patrick Netherton of the Patrick Netherton Show, he says “people don’t realize that bowling actually burns a lot of calories and it’s a very physical sport. The difference is you’re very physical with your body because you got this really heavy object on your body called your head that you’re trying to balance an keep your center of gravity centered ad where it needs to be. Then now you’re swinging a 13-to-15-pound bowling ball. You have to make sure your body’s nice, and limber and you’re stretched and ready to go”.
