Thirteen-Year-Old Girl Dies After Pickup Truck Hits Her Scooter in Bordentown Township Crash as Police Investigate Route 130 Crossing

Police investigate a crash scene with scooters in the roadway and a damaged pickup truck

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 13-year-old girl died after she was struck by a pickup truck while riding a scooter in Bordentown Township, according to authorities. The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Route 130 and Route 662.

Police said the girl was taken to a hospital after the collision, but she later died. A second girl who was with her was not hurt. Investigators have not yet released more details about what led to the crash.

Witnesses say the girls were crossing with the light

Witnesses who spoke to WPVI described the girls as trying to cross the street when the pickup struck one of them. Nathan McMahon said he saw two young girls approaching the intersection and believed the signal favored them.

He said the truck appeared suddenly and hit one of the girls, sending her across the roadway. McMahon also said the driver told bystanders that he had not been looking and did not know what happened. He stayed with the driver until police arrived while others tried to help the injured girls.

Scooters and truck damage left scattered in the intersection

Chopper 6 video from the scene showed several electric scooters lying in the roadway after the crash. The pickup truck also had visible damage. Police later towed the vehicle and brought the driver in for questioning.

The scene remained active for hours as officers investigated and cleared the roadway. The closure affected Route 130, one of the main travel corridors in the area, and drivers were forced to find alternate routes while the investigation continued.

Route 130 closed for hours while police examined the crash

Authorities shut down Route 130 for several hours after the collision so investigators could examine the scene. Police have not said whether charges have been filed or identified any final findings in the case.

Officials also have not released additional information about the truck driver or what may have contributed to the impact. At this stage, the investigation remains open, and police are still working to determine how the crash unfolded at the intersection.

Neighbors describe a busy corridor where speeding worries linger

Some residents said the stretch of road has long been a concern because of traffic and reckless driving. Barbara Stephens, who lives in Bordentown Township, said the area is residential and often used by children on scooters, e-bikes and bicycles.

She said drivers sometimes move through the area too quickly and do not seem to take the presence of children seriously. Her comments reflected a broader worry among neighbors that the intersection and nearby roadway may be especially dangerous for young riders and pedestrians.

What investigators have said so far about the fatal collision

Police have not publicly identified the girl or shared her name with the public. They also have not said what specific actions the driver may have taken before the pickup struck the scooter, or whether any traffic signal timing or road conditions played a role.

For now, the known facts are limited to the time, place and outcome of the collision: one teenager died, another girl was unharmed, and investigators continued reviewing evidence at the scene. The case remains under active investigation by local authorities.
