Pahrump Man Dies After Motorcycle Is Struck by SUV in Nye County as Driver Is Arrested After Leaving the Crash Scene

A damaged motorcycle and SUV at a crash scene in Nye County, Nevada

LAS VEGAS, NV — A 43-year-old Pahrump man died after a motorcycle crash in Nye County on Saturday morning, according to Nevada State Police. Investigators say the SUV involved tried to pass the motorcycle in a no-passing zone before the two vehicles collided near Barney Street and Bell Vista Avenue.

The motorcyclist, identified as Timothy Michael Dorn, was riding a 2023 Honda Navi southbound before the crash. State police said the impact caused the motorcycle to overturn and Dorn was thrown from the bike. He was taken by Mercy Air to a nearby hospital with critical injuries and died later that morning.

Investigators say SUV crossed into the northbound lane to pass

Nevada State Police said the 2013 Honda Pilot was also headed south when the driver attempted to pass the motorcycle by moving into the northbound lane. That maneuver happened in a stretch marked as a no-passing zone, investigators said.

As Dorn began turning left onto eastbound Bell Vista Avenue, the SUV hit the left side of the motorcycle. The sequence of events left the motorcycle overturned and Dorn ejected onto the roadway, according to investigators. The crash occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Oct. 10.

Police have not released additional information about speed, road conditions, or whether any other vehicles were involved. The crash location sits in the Pahrump area of Nye County, where Bell Vista Avenue and Barney Street intersect.

Driver left on foot before deputies made an arrest

After the collision, the driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot, Nevada State Police said. Nye County sheriff’s deputies later found the driver and took the person into custody.

The driver was arrested and charged by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities did not immediately release the driver’s name or list the specific charges in the information provided.

Leaving a serious crash scene can complicate an investigation, but police have not said whether impairment, distraction, or another factor may have contributed to the collision. The case remains active as investigators continue to piece together what happened in the moments before and after impact.

Timothy Michael Dorn was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

Officials said Dorn was flown by Mercy Air to a local hospital after the crash. His injuries were described as life-threatening, and he died later that morning.

Dorn’s death adds to another deadly collision in a county that has already seen multiple severe crashes this year. State police identified him as a 43-year-old resident of Pahrump, a town in Nye County west of Las Vegas.

The motorcycle he was riding was a 2023 Honda Navi, a small-model bike that was traveling southbound along Barney Street before the crash. Investigators have not said whether Dorn was wearing protective gear or whether any mechanical issues played a role.

State police say they have investigated dozens of fatal crashes this year

Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command said it has investigated 54 fatal crashes in 2026 so far, resulting in 60 deaths. The agency included that figure as it described the latest deadly wreck in Nye County.

The tally underscores how many fatal collisions troopers have handled across the southern part of the state this year. Police did not say how the Nye County crash compares with other recent fatal incidents in the region.

For residents and drivers in the Pahrump area, the case is another reminder of how quickly a passing maneuver on a rural roadway can turn fatal. The investigation into the Oct. 10 crash is still underway.

Crash came before 9 a.m. near Bell Vista Avenue intersection

The collision happened before 9 a.m. on a Saturday, a time when traffic may be lighter but visibility and reaction time still matter on two-lane roads. Investigators placed the crash near the intersection of Barney Street and Bell Vista Avenue, one of the key connectors in the area.

According to state police, the SUV was traveling in the same direction as the motorcycle before moving to pass in the opposite lane. The left-side impact, the rollover, and the rider’s ejection all occurred within that sequence, leading to a fatal outcome within hours.

Authorities have not said when additional details may be released. For now, the arrest and the fatal injury remain the central facts in a case that is still being examined by law enforcement.
