Kats set to host three-game series vs. Southeastern La.

Quickly yet discreetly, the Bearkat baseball team is moving on up. Within the last week the team swept a series at home, landed a player in the Southland Conference baseball “Pitcher of the Week” spot, and began making its way towards the top of the conference standings.

After taking on ranked teams like Baylor and Texas A&M and posting wins over big-name clubs such as Rice, the Bearkats entered conference play with plenty of preparation and lessons learned from the tough competition.

With the sweep of conference opponent Louisiana-Monroe this past weekend, the Bearkat baseball team improved to 15-11 on the season and 7-2 in conference play. Junior transfer Luke Prihoda picked up two wins and a save in the series, earning him the title of SLC “Pitcher of the Week.” The trio of wins moved SHSU up in the conference standings to tie with Lamar (19-11, 7-2) for second place in the SLC, just two wins behind conference leader University of Texas-Arlington (11-16, 7-0).

The Bearkats begin their fourth conference series this Friday at 7 p.m. at home against Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions currently trail SHSU in fifth place in the SLC with an over-all record of 11-12 and a record of 2-4 in conference play.
