DPS says 2 tons of marijuana seized in Victoria, Texas

VICTORIA, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety seized 60 barrels of marijuana worth about $2.6 million during a routine traffic stop.

Two Edinburg men in an 18-wheeler were pulled over Monday by a state trooper because a license plate light on the trailer wasn’t working. A search turned up more than 2 tons of marijuana, said DPS Lt. G.M. Forester.

The trooper was suspicious in part because the paperwork the men had didn’t match the load they were carrying. The men, both 23, were arrested on suspicion of delivery of marijuana, which is a first-degree felony.

Authorities believe this truck entered the U.S. through the Rio Grande Valley.

Victoria is 115 miles southeast of San Antonio.
