Dancers spice up LDB

Students and faculty will have the opportunity to learn a few dance moves during an event called “An Evening of Latin Dance”. The event, which will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. in the Lee Drain Building Atrium is part of International Week.

The second annual event will include a performance focusing on the Flamenco, Salsa and Merengue dance styles under the direction of Patricia Astorga, owner of dance company La Esencia Flamenca in Houston.

“Latin dance a form of dance that many people in this country can identify with,” Nancy Holloway, international student advisor, said. “I think the neatest thing is the audience participation.”

The performance will last for approximately an hour and then members of the audience will be encouraged to practice these three dance styles. The event is part of the International Week which has been sponsoring events under the theme of “Internationalization Of SHSU: One Person At A Time.”

“[The purpose of International Week] is to highlight the fact that we have international students on campus,” Holloway said.

An International Festival will be held from 1-6 p.m. in the LSC Ballroom. The event will be open to the public and will include an interactive cross-national learning experience, international gastronomic delights and cultural presentations.
