Graduating senior dies in accident Thursday

Graduating senior Leon James II died in a car accident on Interstate 45 late Thursday night.

According to Dean of Student John Yarabeck, James was set to graduate Saturday with a degree in criminal justice.

Troves of tweets and posts on Instagram flooded the Internet with his fellow students commemorating him, using #RIPLeon and #RIPLeonJames.

According to KHOU, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office says alcohol might have played a role in the accident. James was heading south on I-45 in his 2007 Ford F-150 as he was swerving in and out of lanes. He then struck a minivan and was ejected from his truck after it rolled multiple times.

The accident comes days before the one-year anniversary of a fatal accident on the Sam Houston State University campus that killed three students.
