LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles police are asking for help identifying two men suspected of violently attacking a Danish tourist in Venice, leaving him unconscious with serious head injuries. The Los Angeles Police Department said the assault happened shortly after 12:35 a.m. on Oct. 30 near Speedway and Washington Boulevard.
Police said the victim, a Danish national visiting the United States, was found with a laceration on the right side of his head. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to a hospital, where he received care for serious injuries.
Surveillance video shows two men approaching the victim before the assault
The LAPD said surveillance footage captured the attack and showed two men approaching the victim before assaulting him. Investigators say the beating left the tourist unconscious on the street, though police have not said what led up to the confrontation.
Authorities released suspect images in hopes that someone who recognizes the men will come forward. At this stage, investigators are still trying to identify the pair and piece together the circumstances surrounding the violent encounter in the Venice neighborhood.
What police know about the victim’s condition and treatment
According to police, the man was found with a significant head wound after the attack. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and began treatment before he was transported to a hospital.
Officials described his injuries as serious, but they did not provide an update on his current condition. The man was in the country as a visitor from Denmark, making the case one that has drawn attention because it involved an overseas tourist injured in a popular Los Angeles beach area.
LAPD asks anyone with information to contact Pacific Division detectives
The investigation is being handled by LAPD Pacific Division Detective Patrick Foley. Police said tips can be shared by calling 310-482-6313 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Outside those hours, callers can reach the Pacific Division watch commander at 310-482-6334. On weekends, tips can be directed to 877-527-3247, and anonymous information can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 800-222-8477.
Venice assault adds to worries about late-night violence near busy Los Angeles corridors
The attack took place in Venice, a busy part of Los Angeles that draws residents, visitors and late-night traffic around major streets and nearby attractions. The location near Speedway and Washington Boulevard places the case in an area where police and emergency crews can be called to respond quickly when crimes occur.
While investigators have not said whether the suspects knew the victim or whether the assault was random, the release of surveillance images suggests detectives are relying on the public to help identify the men. For now, the focus remains on finding the suspects and determining why the tourist was targeted.
How the public can help detectives move the case forward
Police are urging anyone who saw the confrontation or recognizes the suspects to contact investigators right away. Even small details from people in the area that night could help detectives confirm where the men went after the attack or identify possible witnesses.
The LAPD’s request for assistance makes clear that the case is still developing. With images now circulating and a hospital-treated victim at the center of the investigation, detectives are depending on community tips to move from an assault with unknown suspects to a case that can be fully solved.
