Tennis team fault-ers over weekend

The SHSU tennis team faced one of the toughest weeks of its season last week.

On Wednesday, the team traveled to Houston to face the University of Houston. Then on Friday, they traveled to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies. The team finished out the weekend with a conference match against Northwestern Louisiana.

The ladies went 0-3 for the week. They fell to the University of Houston 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Cougars swept the Bearkats in both singles and doubles.

They then lost to Texas A&M 7-0 on Friday. The squad was once again swept in both singles and doubles.

Saturday, the team traveled to Natchitoches, La. to take on Northwestern Louisiana University. The Demons defeated SHSU 5-2.

Sam Houston came out of the doubles with one win at the No. 3 spot, but it wasn’t enough to clench the doubles point. In singles, Fati Benboubker split sets with Kati Wallace at the No. 3 spot, and came out with a win, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Shanna Elias also managed a win for the Bearkats. She defeated Kristin Fagels 6-3, 6-1.

The team was scheduled to play the University of Louisiana-Monroe, but did not play.

The Bearkats currently hold a 1-4 record in the Southland Conference. They have three more scheduled conference matches, all at home. Also, the squad now has two conference matches to make up. The dates and times of those matches are to be announced.

SHSU will host the University of Texas-San Antonio this Saturday at 10 a.m. and Southwest Texas State University on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
