SMMC to help brides on budget

The Student Money Management Center will help Bearkat brides on a budget with its event Wednesday “Weddings on a Dime.”

According to Erick Funes, peer financial coach for the SMMC and economics senior at Sam Houston State University, the purpose of the event is the inform students how to get the most bang for their buck when planning a wedding.

“Students can expect to learn how to plan a fantastic wedding at a reasonable price,” Funes said. “Spending can get out of hand easily when planning for a wedding. A budget will help students stay grounded and make savvy financial decisions.”

The event will feature guest speaker Cameron Klepac who will offer tips on wedding planning and budgeting and free drinks, pizza and an actual wedding cake will also be provided.

“Cameron Klepac is a graduate of Sam Houston State and has recently been named Event Specialist for The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau,” Funes said. “Previously, she worked as the assistant director of university events here at SHSU. She has years of experience in event planning including her own wedding that took place last year.”

Students who enter three or more events will be entered into a drawing for one of two $400 scholarships. Although Funes said as of right now there are no more events planned pertaining to weddings on a budget, the SMMC does have many more workshops planned for the fall.

The event will be beneficial to students who are currently planning a wedding or even hope to plan one in the future.

“It is imperative because weddings can be a very stressful and costly,” Funes said. “It is their special day, and everything needs to be just right.”

“Weddings on a Dime” will be held Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. in the Lowman Student Center Theater.
